Chronicle Counsel: Somersby Falls to get upgrade

One of the Central Coast’s most photographed locations, Somersby Falls in Brisbane Water National Park, is set for a major $2.04 million upgrade as part of the NSW Government’s largest-ever investment in national park infrastructure.

Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast and Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch said national parks on the Central Coast would benefit from the unprecedented $257 million State-wide infrastructure program.

Somersby Falls

“A stunning waterfall, lush rainforest, sightings of species such as koalas and platypus, and a well-located walking track make Somersby Falls the perfect spot for a day out with friends or family,” Mr Crouch said.

“For a number of years, we have seen an increasing number of visitors to this treasured location, especially on weekends and school holidays.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted many to get out and explore the Central Coast’s own ‘backyard’, which is why Somersby Falls will be upgraded to manage further increases in visitation.”

The proposed upgrade includes:

–       Improving accessibility by upgrading the walking track and elevated timber walkways leading from the picnic area to the falls,

–       Increasing accessibility by providing disabled access to view the top falls,

–       Enhancing the protection of Aboriginal sites,

–       Improving the BBQs and picnic tables,

–       Creating a new covered group area with picnic tables,

–       Upgrading the amenities block and other associated infrastructure, and

–       Increasing capacity in the car park, including dedicated bus parking spaces.

“I am calling on everyone in our community to take a look at the concept designs and have a say on the future of this fantastic natural asset,” Mr Crouch said.

The concept designs are available for community feedback until Sunday, 18 April. To view, the concept designs click here.
