Chronicle Counsel: Melbourne Cup

The Melbourne Cup is Australia’s most famous annual thoroughbred horse race. It is a 3200-metre race for three-year-olds and over, conducted by the Victoria Racing Club on the Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne, Victoria as part of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.

If you haven’t made plans yet, it’s not too late. Yes, even on the day itself.

If you’re not able to get out of the office for Melbourne Cup celebrations, here are a few ideas to get into the spirit of the race…

  • Organise an office-sweep (you can always make the prize bragging rights if a monetary sweep isn’t ideal in your workplace).
  • A DIY hat station will create plenty of laughs (as well as some interesting ideas on FASHION!) with newspaper and craft accessories available for staff.  (A quick visit to Kmart or local newsagent for craft supplies will sort you out quick sticks!)
  • Have some in-office catering provided for your staff, sushi, sandwiches and a selection of cakes will have team members smiling!  (Uber Eats or Pizza anyone?)
Whatever you get up to, enjoy the festivities of the day.
