Central Coast Events Guide: Central Coast Mariners go PINK

We’ve all heard the saying, “Real men wear pink”.. Well, the Central Coast Mariners are certainly getting behind that statement.

Thanks to Synergy FM, the Central Coast Mariners will swap their famous Yellow and Navy kit for Pink to raise awareness for skin cancer research in partnership with Cancer Council NSW. (What absolute champions!)

The match in Round 22 on March 8 against the Wellington Phoenix at Central Coast Stadium, will see the Mariners take to the field in the special edition kit.

This won’t be the first time the team has supported the cause – the annual Pink Round has now run for eight (yes, 8!) consecutive seasons, and this year the Mariners are dedicating funds raised to skin cancer research and support services with Cancer Council NSW.

“Central Coast Mariners and Cancer Council NSW’s local partnership has run for 8 years and has raised over $60,000 through the generosity of its members and fans during the Pink round.” Cancer Council NSW representative Jaynie Maloney said.

“Some of the services that have been supported throughout these years have been meal services which provide healthy nutritious family meals delivered to homes of cancer patients to assist them, information service based at Gosford Hospital which provides support, information and resources for local patients and their families during this difficult time.”

Skin cancer awareness is a cause close to the Club’s heart, with Carina Gumprecht, wife of former Mariner Andre Gumprecht, currently battling a Stage 4 Melanoma.

“Pink Round is an important opportunity for the Central Coast Mariners to show support and give back to our community,” Club CEO Shaun Mielekamp stated.

“Support services and research for skin cancer are such a vital part of protecting the health and wellbeing of the community, particularly in Australia.”

“We hope everyone can get behind Pink Round and come to the game to show their support for the Mariners, and for Cancer Council NSW.” Mielekamp said.

Pink Round is thanks to the support of kit sponsor and local business, Synergy FM.

“When my partner and I started Synergy FM 12 months ago, the Coast jumped on board in a big way, so it is only fair that we pay it forward,” said Dan Campbell, General Manager of Synergy FM.

“The Mariners is the family club, so being involved with the Pink Round is just helping out the family.”

“Everyone knows someone directly or in directly affected by cancer. If this Pink Round raises enough money to help a few people through their treatment, it can only be a good thing.” Campbell said.
